Our non-profit organization, InFocus Pure Water, has been training of how to have clean water, better hygiene and sanitation. Then like overnight we were trapped into the world of the Covid-19 pandemic. This changed the wellbeing of the people we serve. Many jobs were lost, without the safety net of unemployment compensation.
Something had to be done quickly. Two basic needs were unavailalbe or sold at high prices. Face masks and hand sanitizer were in short supply. Face maskes are required in public.
InFocus Pure Water funded women's self help groups to manufacture masks and hand sanitizer. Quality had to be assured before the sanitizer could be sold. It passed Bureau of Standard testing. Quickly we were able to get 40 men and women back to work. Thousands of bottles have been sold, schools are ording masks to march uniforms.
Schools will be opening soon. It is necessary to increase supply inventories to meet the demand of proper high quality face masks and had sanitizer with hands-free sanitizer dispensers. A portion of the funds we are seeking will go these projects.
We have been associated with rural communites in Wester Kenya for 14 years. We have shown caring and understanding for the people. Kasage Community Based Organization (CBO) asked if we could help save the community's loss of youth, boys and girls.
This has traditionally been a fishing village. As fish stocks drop, so do incomes. Secondary school is not free. Many students drop out for lack of funds. Without graduating, low income jobs or unemployment are the norm.
Our proposal was to establish an organic produce farm. Kasage CBO manages communal lands in the area. Let's use a portion of the unused land to establish a training farm to give income and teach students to farm on their family plots. These students will be taught to do farming from accounting to a co-op to market and maintain high quality. Water is available here and farming will be done year round.
This is planned to be a two year long self-sustaining project.
Profits will go to establishing crop production at home plots, and to fund suport to seniors or disabled in the community through Kasaga CBO. Surplus and imperfect produce will be donated to schools and needy.
You will enjoy watching this project, as we will supply our donors a running diary of these projects bloom, as we pass through this pandemic. You might even consider dropping by, as you take a safari.
Thank you for your donation.
