As most of you know, in 2019 Keep Muscatine Beautiful (KMB) hosted several community events called Almost Friday Fest on the Muscatine Riverfront. These events were held on the fourth Thursday of the month from June to September. The event has been very successful and KMB plans are to continue the event in 2020 as soon as restrictions are lifted.
One of the issues discovered during the event in 2019 was lack of lighting in the area of the Riverfront where the event is held. Lighting is needed for the safety of the public during the event and departing from the event. KMB also determined that electrical power for vendors was not available on this area of the Riverfront, so generators were needed; KMB would like to also add electrical to this area.
After discussion with multiple City leaders, KMB began investigating a lighting and electrical project on the area of the Riverfront where the Almost Friday Fest is held. Musco Lighting and Muscatine Power and Water (MP&W) were contacted and brought in on discussions for a project to remedy the lighting and electrical issues in that area of the riverfront. A project was developed and as an added bonus, electrical options for the future Band Shell are included.
The Band Shell is currently a Leadership Muscatine Project in 2020. The total cost of the project is coming in at just under $100,000 to provide light poles with the desired lighting requirements needed for the space and electrical options on these poles for vendor use during events such as Almost Friday Fest. KMB has secured in-kind donations from Musco Lighting and MP&W towards this project.
KMB is committing to a donation of $10,000 to start the additional fundraising need. In addition, meetings have already been scheduled to discuss this project and start securing donations with other business leaders for the City of Muscatine and in the Muscatine community. THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN.
We know how much you loved attending these FREE events. We plan to continue to keep the events free in 2020, but we hope that you would like to contribute to making the event better by helping KMB put lights and electrical on the Riverfront. Please consider donating – every little bit helps. And we have an anonymous donor who is willing to help with a matching fund of up to $20,000. Can you help us get the match for the entire $20,000?
