When WHEA called me during the Summer between Liam's 5th and 6th grade year and told me he had moved up the waiting list and was now officially being offered a spot at the amazing charter school, I was ecstatic! Ever since Liam was in Kindergarten I wanted him to go there. It fit him so well; his self-directed learning style, his independence in day-to-day school requirements and his love of being outdoors. They do most of their learning out in the cool Kona breeze under tents! Now he's in 8th grade at WHEA and at the beginning of the year, his teachers shared that they were determined to get his whole class to the East Coast! The 8th grade is focused on learning about American History and now they have a chance to actually go to some of the places they have been studying including the Freedom Trail in Boston, Mystic Seaport in Connecticut and the Statue of Liberty in New York. There is no doubt that this will be an educational experience like no other. Reading about these places online and looking at pictures just can't beat the real deal. Liam is so excited about the trip and the opportunity to get to travel with his class! The cost of getting all of these students there and back (that's a long ways away!), shelter & transportation, is a challenge but as parents come together and organize small fundraisers and the students work hard at their own individual goals, it's been trickling in. Each students estimated cost is $3000. We have a push to get the monies in by January/February because that is when the tickets need to be purchased and arrangements must be made. Any little bit of financial help is greatly appreciated and if donated through this site, is tax deductible. The money will go directly to the WHEA foundation and used specifically for this adventure of a lifetime! Thank you in advance!
