For Our Children
After fasting 55 days for Lent, Copts celebrate Resurrection Eid (April 19th this year), and the day is marked with good food, wonderful company, and splendid gifts.
For the thirty children we're organizing to support, because they live in single parent households or are orphans, Eid comes and goes without much to celebrate. Their parent may be working that day, and the child(ren) may be home alone, or they may spend a few hours in church with friends, but then go back to an empty home. We want to change that.
This year, Elmahaba Center's volunteers are making Lent Baskets--filled with candy, a chocolate bunny, a flower, and a $20 gift card to a restaurant befitting the child's age--for our Coptic children in need. Each basket will be worth $25, and we're making 30 baskets in total for children ranging from toddlers to teenagers. Gift cards will match the child's age and preference.
We're asking that our community pitch in and support each other in the making of these baskets, so that when we call a feast, we all can celebrate!
