Hi all!
As you might remember from last year, Pull for Pride is a deadlift only powerlifting event to raise money for the Ali Forney Center, which provides housing and resources for LGBTQ youth. This is one of my favorite events of the year and one of the best ways to use our platform (see what I did there?) as lifters to contribute to an important organization. Unfortunately, I'm unable to lift because of an injury. If you know me you know how important lifting is to me and how incredibly bummed I am to have to back out of this event. However, that doesn't mean I can't contribute by supporting my fellow lifters and raising some money for AFC! Any little bit is appreciated!
More on the Ali Forney Center:
The Ali Forney Center encircles youth with quality services in an LGBTQ-Positive environment. Given the discrimination and harassment that so many of these young adults have faced, they need comprehensive support and encouragement to develop pride and security in their LGBTQ identities. AFC’s clients come from all walks of life. More than 80% are kicked out of their homes for being who they are. The remainder run away due to abuse, neglect, or a combination of rejection and abuse. About half of AFC's clients come to them from other states and some are even from around the world.
