As many people close to me know, Smart Fit Girls is a non-profit organization that is near and dear to my heart. Smart Fit Girls' mission is to improve the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of adolescent aged girls. We aim to teach young girls to love their bodies by embracing their own strength. Aside from implementing many activities that are science-backed and proven to improve self-esteem and self-confidence, we also spend time teaching the girls how to lift weights! As I've come to learn in my own journey towards self-love, weight lifting is a very empowering form of physical activity that focuses on getting stronger and what the body CAN do, versus only working out to lose weight or get smaller (which is something that society teaches us from a very young age). Having coached and worked for the organization for the past 3 years, I can say that SFG is accomplishing exactly what it has set out to do! Every girl deserves to know what it feels like to love their bodies and to recognize their worth.
SEATTLE FRIENDS: On National Smart Fit Girls Day (Saturday, November 23rd) I'll be hosting a group hike near Seattle, WA. Though I'm way better at lifting than I am at hiking (ha), I thought it'd be fun to get a group of people together, outside and moving, to celebrate a good cause! Plus, most of us lifters could use a little work on our cardivascular endurance, eh :P
Where: Rattlesnake Ledge Trail is a 5.1 mile moderately rated hike. It's about a 35 minute drive from Seattle and I'm happy to organize some carpooling. Everyone is welcome, all hiking levels and ages! Seriously, don't feel intimated if you're not an experienced hiker. We'll take it nice and slow with some good conversation flowing, talk goal-setting, fitness, life, etc. There will be plenty of time to complain about our achey knees on the way down!
When: Saturday, November, 23rd. We'll be meeting at the trailhead at 8AM.
I'm obviously not going to charge people to walk around outside with me :P but since it's such a special day for a special cause... I'm asking for a 10-dollar donation request with ALL money going straight to SFG. No pressure and if you can't donate, you're still absolutely welcome to join! :) I'll also be providing some snacks and water bottles!
**** If you plan on coming on the hike, please register through this page so that I know how many people will be coming!
If you can't make it this time but would like to consider donating... it would mean SO much!
Additionally, I'll be offering a free month of one-on-one training/nutrition coaching (a $200+ value).for the month of December for anybody who donates $100 dollars or more. Again, all proceeds will go directly to SFG.
Strong and empowered girls become strong and empowered women. Please help me reach my goal of $1000 so that Smart Fit Girls can reach as many girls as possible!
SFG Mission and Vision
The mission of SFG is to empower middle school girls to support one another and themselves in their pursuit of strength, both in body and mind. We do this using an evidence based program that involves lessons designed to foster self-love and activities that show the girls what they can do when their bodies are strong. We envision a world where girls love all of who they are (inside and out) because we know that all girls are inherently strong, worthy and capable of greatness.
Thank you for your support of Smart Fit Girls!
