I've been training hard to prepare for this year's Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike race. This will be my second time toeing the line in Leadville for this 100 mile challenge. This time, I'm raising funds for my friend's charity, the Chris Klug Foundation (CKF). This organization was started by Aspen local and former Olympian, Chris Klug, with a mission to promote organ and tissue donation. Chris himself is a recipient of organ donation and he has shown time and time again what is possible post-transplant as he enters his 7th Leadville 100 race.
Transplant survivors, their families, donors, and donor families have endured and overcome more stress, pain and heartache than I have experienced in my training, racing bikes, and in my mountaineering endeavors over the years. I have been very fortunate in my life and I can't imagine being one of the 115,000 people on the waitlist for organ donation. These people and their families, many of them children, wait (im)patiently for a match and a second chance at life. Chris has been given a second chance and he has never taken that for granted. I can only hope that me and my friends and family never have to experience this. This is why I WILL NOT STOP PEDALING this coming Saturday.
Please help me reach my goal to raise $1500 to help raise awareness for this great cause to help give others a possible second chance at life. If raising funds helps one person I know from having that long wait or saves several people because one person decided to become a donor, then we have succeeded, regardless of my race outcome. It's so easy to do through your DMV and you can help someone with a chronic illness, a victim of an accident or a birth defect.
Currently only 54% of people nationwide are registered organ donors!!! That is nuts!!! CKF is making huge strides to increase that number and eliminate the wait for thousands. Please help me raise the very important funds they need to continue spreading their message. The smallest amount helps and 100% of your donation is tax-deductible.
Donations can be made via credit card or check. To learn more about CKF, please visit their website:
I know there are a lot of worthy causes and I truly appreciate your consideration of giving to this cause.
