In neighborhoods all across Brooklyn, greatness is nurtured. Every Saturday morning since 1989, in a few classrooms of a public school building, Ifetayo Cultural Arts Academy has strived to fulfill a simple mission:
…to empower youth and families of African descent to achieve high levels of educational, professional and artistic excellence. We inspire future generations to develop a strong African-centered cultural identity and realize their power to transform social inequity.
Ifetayo has successfully guided children of the African diaspora to discover their song, to connect to their culture and to know themselves. Ifetayo offers many enriching courses; all crafted by educational professionals to help young people manifest the best in themselves, in turn emanating excellence into the world they live in.
This year, we strive to amplify our mission. We’ve found a larger dedicated space for Ifetayo to take permanent residence. So we’re creating this funding drive and reaching out to YOU to help us raise $200,000.
In the spirit of “ujamma” (cooperative economics) when you give to Ifetayo, you become part of our extended community, but more importantly, your contribution enables us to better serve our children – with new opportunities to discover and affirm a profound and lifelong sense of identity. It is through our collective effort that Ifetayo will continue to play a pivotal role in shaping the lives of our children of African descent, helping them to manifest the greatness within each of them. We believe its an effort worth undertaking, we hope you feel the same.
