Livermore Community Hall is a little know gem in the foothills of Northern Colorado.  In 1948 this building was built by the local cattle ranchers and neighboring volunteers for meetings, dances and gatherings of all kinds.  Now in 2020 the hall is used for much the same purposes but there is one thing missing, handicap access.  There weren’t even restrooms until the 1970’s.  For the past 71 years the hall has been a 501c3 operated by a board of volunteer directors.  There are no tax dollars to maintain the building so concerts, dances, donations and rentals are the income to keep the hall open and in good working condition.  As our population is aging many of our neighbors who were once very involved in our community events are unable to attend events because of a lack of access for them.  They miss the community involvement and the community misses their contributions.  Many brides and grooms have decided to have their weddings in other locations so all of their family members can attend.  We have come to the point of improvement to keep the building accessible for all.

The Jo Story.  Jo’s family helped to build the Livermore Community Hall but unfortunately Jo was suffering from Post-Polio and as she aged it was most difficult for her to navigate the stairs at the hall.  This kept her from enjoying social events, dinners and meetings.  She always was confused why people did not understand the needs of the population she was a part of.  Handicap access is needed everywhere.  It would mean so much to so many to correct this problem and make it possible for everyone to enjoy the hall and all of its offerings.

The Linn Story. One of the Livermore Community Hall board members that offered so much to the community contracted a debilitating disease but continued to serve as long as he could for the hall.  His biggest wish was to see that the hall had handicap access.  For all of this community and more we are trying to fulfil Lynn’s wish but we need help to see this project to completion.

The Mary Story. We are so lucky to have wonderful entertainers that will come to our modest and beloved hall for an evening of music and joy.  One evening a family brought Mary to hear and meet her favorite singer, storyteller.  Mary is confined to a wheel chair but did not realize we were not prepared for her arrival.  Many volunteers had to lift her in her chair up the steep stairs to the concert hall for her special evening.  You could see the concern in her eyes and it made all of us realize how very important it is to get this fabulous building up to current needs.  Mary had an evening to remember for all of us.  Handicap access is more important than ever in this time of longer lives and easy transportation.

Not only is the Livermore Community Hall a place for entertainment and communication is has been used as a location for firefighters to rest and eat and for the necessary meetings they must have when there is a large fire they are trying to control.  Evacuees also have been at the hall when the fires are too close to their home for comfort. With handicap access we can serve even more of our community needs.
