It has been one of the greatest blessing and privileges of my life to be part of the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum JCC . A little over 20 years ago, I joined the JCC family, even before the building was completed. The founding members had a dream to bring a JCC to our community .
What happened since far exceeds any of their expectations, or mine for that matter. The J has become an intergral part of our community, and many consider it their "home away from home". I have watched my own children grow up here and participate in every program. Our JCC is a place where we all have come to understand the beauty and value of community.
You could imagine our devastation when in March after so many years of working to build our J, suddenly we were forced to shut our doors. All that we had built together with love and hard work was being shut down. As we began to navigate through these dark times we realized how much more important our service was to the community than we realized. It was through the dedication of our board, staff and community that we did the impossible. Within days we had opened our doors virtually and started providing the vital services the community needed. Today we are offering a hybrid of in person and virtual programming that months ago seemed impossible.
Almost from the beginning of the pandemic, while much of the world shut down, the JCC did not. We did what we always do and put our community first. Our preschool, camp, swim team, special needs program, fitness center, aquatics center, adult and teen programs have continued to provide the community with much needed services. People needed to connect with others in the community, and the JCC made that possible.
For thousands of years, against all odds, the Jewish people have not only survived, but persevered and thrived. We are a people of strength and resilience.
We are asking the community to support your J.
We are so fortunate to have a group of generous donors who have agreed to Match up to $200, 000 that we raise in the next 72 hours. Help us reach our goal of $400,000!
Any amount that you can contribute will help us be able to continue to help others.
Together we will get through this and come out stronger.
