Introducing the new Chevy Chase Main Street...
A program of District Bridges, Chevy Chase Main Street (CCMS) will work to enrich neighborhood vitality by bridging community engagement and economic development opportunities so individuals, businesses, and organizations can thrive together.
Your financial support of CCMS is a direct investment back into your community. Whether we’re filling out paperwork for business owners for whom English is a second language so they can get the grants and permits they need right now to survive COVID, helping cover the costs of equipment that business owners need to pivot their models to do delivery and have outdoor seating, or advocating for small businesses to DC Council, your donation makes our work possible.
Over the last several years, community members, business owners, and elected officials came together to establish a DC Main Street program dedicated to supporting and serving the commercial corridor of Chevy Chase. In 2020, Councilmember Cheh made money available for such an endeavor and in the fall of 2020, District Bridges applied and won the CCMS designation from the DC Department of Small and Local Business Development, becoming the 26th designated DC Main Streets program. District Bridges received over 110 letters of support for the application and is excited to now begin working with the community to launch CCMS.
*CCMS receives no dues or tax assessments. We rely on grants from the DC Government, and voluntary contributions from our business owners, building owners, and residents of our community to support our work. Please note that District Bridges' legal name is Columbia Heights Day Initiative, which will be displayed as you donate and on the tax receipt.*
As small businesses across our city and nation struggle amid the COVID-19 crisis, Main Street programs have been the frontline first responders for small business owners. District Bridges manages five other Main Street programs across NW DC and since the start of lockdown in March, our team has been helping small businesses navigate the ever-changing environment and the seemingly insurmountable challenge of conducting business during a pandemic. We have been able to award $220,675 in small business grants to 86 of businesses. We assisted many businesses in applying for the DC Microgrant, the Paycheck Protection Program, the Economic Injury Disaster Loan, and Winterization Grant. But most importantly, our team has been continually available to business owners serving as an advisor, advocate, and virtual shoulder to cry on as they navigate these unprecedented times. The one thing we know is that by supporting each other our communities will recover and will thrive again - and we look forward to supporting Chevy Chase in the same way.
