A very BIG THANK YOU to our anonymous family who initiated this summer fundraising drive with the 2:1 matching offer! The support from our Lakeside community exceeded their personal expectations of $7,500 and they have informed me that a check for $15,000 will be sent to the Lakeside Community Foundation on their behalf. We are so humbled and grateful for this single family’s support and that of our other donors who have contributed so much in so little time! The combination of the single family donation, community efforts and our current superintendent’s commitment to donate $5,000 brings our total to $35,210! A special thank you as well the Daly family, Kiefer family, Cameron family and the Sereno Group (Rebecca Smith and Karen Izzo) for your support!
Dear Lakeside Parents and Community Members,
This has been an incredible year. We are so grateful for the amazing support our community and parents have provided our little school on the mountain, as we continue to weather the COVID-19 storm together. As you may be aware, one of the unfortunate effects of the timing of the Shelter in Place Order was that our Lakeside Community Foundation's annual Fundraiser Auction was cancelled. This Auction is a special time where families, community members, alumni and friends come together in support of Lakeside School’s instructional programs and additional student support services. Our little mountain school heavily relies on the generosity of our community and parents’ participation in the annual Auction.
On June 2nd, the day before school ended, I was approached by a Lakeside parent who shared our concerns regarding the missed Foundation Auction and offered to help us make up this loss with a matching/giving campaign. The parent (who would like to remain anonymous) has offered to match all donations at a 2:1 dollar donation to help us make up the minimum fundraising/donations the Foundation anticipated it would raise in this single event. I am always humbled by the spirit of our community and willingness to come together in times of need. There are many reasons Lakeside has survived well over 130 years and this is one of them. Consider the impact of this tremendous offer; for every one dollar donated to Lakeside School this parent will donate two! In this time of our current pandemic, anticipated budget cuts from the state and the fiscal impact COVID-19 has had on our little mountain school, this is an incredible opportunity for Lakeside School to meet or exceed this year’s Community Foundation annual Auction minimum of $35,000.
I am personally encouraging us all (community, parents, staff) to take advantage of this wonderful and generous opportunity and donate to Lakeside School! Dr. Joyce, our Superintendent, has personally committed $5000 on his own, to this matching fund.
How is this money used, you may ask? The Lakeside Foundation fundraising goes to support, in part, our Enrichment Program; those teachers who support our students through a more whole-child focus by providing science, physical education, arts, music, and our Social and Emotional Learning Coordinator. Our Foundation also provides for classroom materials, field trip scholarships, instructional technology and much more. If you have not reached out directly to the Lakeside Community Foundation or have any interest in being a part of the Foundation, please do not hesitate to join our Lakeside Community of volunteers.
I often say to our staff (and anyone who will listen), Lakeside is tiny but very mighty. While we are small in numbers we are rich in talent, effort, energy, and a greater sense of community. In my family we often say Family, we may not have it all together, but together we have it all. I believe this to be true of our Lakeside family; when we pool our resources we can overcome any obstacle that comes our way. If you were looking for a way to support our school, looking forward to the Auction, or are invested in building a stronger educational foundation for your children, now is the time to consider giving to the Foundation if you and your family are able.
