Lake Conestee Nature Preserve is a 400 acre wildlife sanctuary located just south of downtown Greenville, SC. LCNP is owned and operated by a small non-profit, the Conestee Foundation, and we depend on revenue created from our field trips, public events, grants, and donations to keep up the preserve. Due to the current Coronavirus crisis we have had to cancel all field trips and events until further notice. This has greatly reduced our revenue for the spring and summer. We are also uncertain what the next school year will bring since there will most likely be restrictions on field trips.
We have also had major delays and increased costs to multiple grant-funded construction projects within the preserve. We have been able to complete the installation of the River Otter Way Bridge, the renovation of West Bay Observation Deck, Racoon Run Boardwalk, and Woodie Walk. Due to unexpected costs we ran out of grant funds and we sustained additional damage created by recent storms. So we still have a lot of work that needs that has not been funded. The lower Marrow Bone Creek boardwalk needs renovating as there are multiple holes along the boardwalk and the structure has been compromised due to flooding. We need to build the boardwalk ramps up to the River Otter Way bridge to allow for easier access as well as handicap accessible access. We also have a portion of Sparkleberry Connector and Flat Tail Trail that were washed out by recent floods and are in need of repairs.
It takes a community to keep our trails and programs alive. We are counting on you to support our nature preserve and our education programs! Every dollar helps!
