Our names are DJ (10th grade) and Sienna Bevan (8th grade) and we are making it our mission to help the LA Food Bank provide food for those who can't afford it themselves. A lot of us take basic necessities, like food, for granted, but a vast majority of LA citizens aren't able to purchase food. During this pandemic, food insecurity rates have been especially high. According to USC Dornsife, 1 in 4 LA households are struggling to afford food. Los Angeles is home to one of the largest populations of people facing hunger.
We have witnessed these struggles first hand. This past summer, we volunteered at a food pantry in Santa Monica that was created in response to the struggles people were having during COVID. There, we distributed boxes of food, provided by the LA food bank, to a myriad of families in need. For the three hours a week we volunteered, people and families came every few minutes for food support. It was amazing to be a part of such an important process but devastating to see that so many people were in need of food.
Through this Go Fund Me, we are trying to raise money for the LA Food Bank, so they can buy meals for those in dire need of it. Every $25 raised helps the Food Bank provide 100 meals to our neighbors experiencing a lack of food. If we can reach our goal of $2,500, together we can help the LA Food Bank give 10,000 meals to those in need of them! I hope you can help us contribute. Thank you so much for your consideration!
