Los Angeles First Preschool (LAFP), located in the heart of LA, has been providing a safe and educational haven for the children in our community for over 20 years.
The campus has both a state-funded program and a private school. The private school, while only 25% of the students make up a large portion of the funding for the program.
The private program is effectively shut down, due to the "safer at home" order issued by the Mayor's office. Many of the parents in the privately funded program are working from home and do not require child care for the duration.
The 100+ families in our state-funded program, need a safe place for their children while they are doing essential jobs for the community.
So LAFP has notified City and County offices that we have additional space in the program for families in essential occupations.
We have rearranged the classrooms for more inter-personal space. We have waivers from the State of California to increase our student to teacher ratios from 8:1 to 10:1 during the emergency. And we are following best practice guides from the CDC and LA county health departments.
What we need now is funding to get us past these first few months until the various level of government can support us, or we can obtain private financing.
This gofundme is set up so I can ask my friends both locally and globally, to assist the school financially during these trying times.
