On July 14th, 2016, my sister Molly and her fiancé Ben were in motorcycle accident while vacationing in Canada. With the incredible support and help from friends and family, they were medically transported to Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital where they were treated for life-threatening injuries. Today, Molly and Ben are fully recovered and doing better than ever! The support they received during their recovery inspired them to establish the 501(c)3 nonprofit, Preventing Injuries for People and Empowering Survivors (PIPES). The mission is to create more awareness of how to keep yourself and others safe on the road while helping those who are recovering from traumatic accidents. http://pipesincorporated.org/
This Spring, I will be racing my first marathon at the Mountains to Beach Marathon in Ventura, CA to help support their nonprofit. In addition to raising funds for PIPES, 50% of the donations will go to Brigham and Women's Stepping Strong Center for Trauma and Innovation. As Molly and Ben's medical team guided them through their recovery, they had the opportunity to learn more about the Stepping Strong Center and how they are transforming trauma care. They also learned how too often trauma accidents occur, accounting for 41 million Emergency Department visits a year. Through PIPES, Molly and Ben hope to help fund research for trauma care while advocating for the welfare of survivors.
Please consider helping me in this journey as I take on my first marathon while supporting PIPES and the Stepping Strong Center! Your genorisity will inspire me as I prepare to run the 26.2 miles for two organizations that are very close to my heart!
