Together, Kristin Bergunder and the Humane Society for Hamilton County are building a brighter future for Hamilton County and Hoosier animals:
The Humane Society for Hamilton County (HSHC) is an award-winning, nationally-recognized organization that serves Hamilton County as an open-admission, no-kill shelter. We serve as both the Humane Society and Animal Control facility for the county taking in over 3,000 unwanted, neglected, abused, and seriously injured animals each year.
We believe every companion animal deserves a chance to live and love regardless of age, breed, disability, special medical needs, time, or space. And while we receive some of the most difficult to save and place pets imaginable, HSHC consistently achieves an annual average placement rate of 98%.
The last 12 years of exponential growth in Hamilton County--and operating in a facility without several critical areas such as an arrival space for cats, a quarantine area for contagious animals, a recovery area for the injured, and adequate meeting/office space—have driven us beyond our capacity.
Even more challenging are the quality of life issues that impact both animals and people. Without noise control measures in the kennel, our dogs, staff, and visitors are often overcome by the deafening noise. Without windows in the animal areas of our building, the cats never see sunlight or enjoy fresh air. Without adequate outdoor space, the dogs often go without proper exercise and are limited to walks through a busy parking lot.
With your help, and Kristin Bergunder, we can change this.
We are overjoyed to announce that a world-class shelter designed to save more lives, expand our community outreach programs, and provide a happier and healthier life for the animals is within our grasp. Our new location in Fishers awaits us, and an incredible building design has been completed. Now, it’s time to launch our Capital Campaign to raise the funds needed to Build a Brighter Future for Hamilton County and Hoosier Animals.
It is with urgent need and great hope that we request your generous support.
