I always knew I wanted to be a mom. When we started trying and it didn't happen it was heartbreaking. 1 year of trying, then 8 rounds of IUIs, a miscarriage, and 1 round of IVF. We got Erin that did not come without a little heartbreak as Erin was a twin for 8 weeks. Fortunately for us we had really good insurance and the out of pocket cost was not bad. The average IUI cycle cost can be $500 to $4,000, the avereage IVF cycle can cost $10,000 to $15,000. Not everyone is as lucky as we were to a) get pregnant on the first IVF cycle b) have great insurance. Cost really holds some people back from their dream of having a family and its not fair. For those that can afford it well having a support system is just as important. I had friends who were also going throgh it at the time and a group of 6 amazing women who I met online without them I don't think I would have ever made it through the process. I want to help give someone else the chance to have the amazing family I have and to not feel alone while going through it.
This charity helps raise money to provide financial grants for those seeking fertility treatments, surrogacy or adoption to lessen the financial burden that is too often associated with infertility. They are setting up social support groups to connect individuals and couples dealing with the emotional impact of infertility to help limit the feelings of isolation. Their vision includes working with other organizations with a similar mission to assist infertile couples. Last year with the money raised through people like me running the Falmouth Road Race they were able to fund 5 couples battling infertility.
