Help us provide emergency food and disaster relief for our community.
Due to the governmental restriction in place to slow the spread of COVID-19 in Guatemala, Konojel has been forced to suspend our nutrition program, providing a daily meal to the members of our community most affected by chronic malnutrition. These restrictions have created further food security issues for all families in San Marcos la Laguna. In an effort to ensure that no member of our community goes hungry, we are pivoting and expanding our nutritional support from daily meals to providing bags of healthy food delivered to Konojel's beneficiary families in greatest need and many other families at increased risk of malnutrition during this time.
In addition, in the wake of the landslide that destroyed homes, took lives, and displaced hundreds of people who have been evacuated, the need is great. Konojel is now serving three meals a day to over 300 people who are housed in temporary shelters while teams work to remove the debris from the landslide, secure loose soil and rocks, and rebuild the infrastructure in Barrio Uno. Until this work is done, families cannot return to their homes.
We kindly ask that you join us in supporting the women of Konojel, who are working tirelessly on the ground in Guatemala, partnering with other local organizations to meet the immediate need in our village. These funds will allow us to continue to feed the families who need it most and keep our local, indigenous staff employed during this difficult time.
