In the Fall of 1999 my life was changed forever when I got sober with the help of MusiCares, a nonprofit organization established by the Recording Academy to help members of the music industry struggling with financial, medical, and personal hardship. Now, I'm the Chairman of the organization that saved my life. I vividly remember watching the Kona IRONMAN World Championships on television and crying because I was too hungover to fathom that level of dedication, perseverance, and athleticism.
On October 12, 2019 with 20 years of sobriety under my belt, I'm going to fulfill a dream by participating in that exact race, thanks to a partnership with the IRONMAN Foundation, the charitable arm of IRONMAN.
Please help support and encourage my journey by pledging money to MusiCares. I'm appreciative for any level donation but will be adding logos to my traininig and race kits for donations of $5,000 or more. My goal is to raise over $150,000 ($100k for MusiCares and $50k for the Ironman Foundation) so MusiCares can continue to deliver the necessary financial and emotional support to anyone in the music community in need, as well as provide a special IRONAID grant through the IRONMAN Foundation to support addiction recovery on the Island of Hawai'i. Watch the video above or check out www.grammy.com/musicares for more information. It's a kickass organization, and one that I hope you will help support!
