In Rwanda, Komera means "be strong, have courage". In 2008, Komera started a small girls-only fun run to provide an opportunity for young women in rural Rwanda to gain confidence through sport. Eleven years later, Komera now supports 150 young women and over a thousand community members in Rwanda through education, community development and sport!
While Komera began as a primarily scholarship program over 10 years ago, with each year we’ve grown and developed our programming to best address the needs of the Kayonza district community. Beyond education, we know young women need layers of support to succeed. We believe in long-term commitment to suppot young women to become leaders and visionaries in their communities. We foster her growth at all points of her journey, from completing secondary school to transitioning onto university, jobs, or business development. We recognize the importance of mentorship, communities as stakeholders, focusing on healthcare and supporting economic development. We believe in the dreams of young women and invest in their potential!
Help us foster leadership and show young women that she can #RUNTHEWORLD! Here's what your donation can do:
- $40 invests in a teen mother to start her own business

- $250 allows a student to attend 3-months of computer training
- $500 provides tuition for a full year of secondary school
- $1,250 pays for a full year at university
For the FIRST year Komera will be an official charity partner of the United Airlines New York City Half Marathon! Donate here to support our stellar Half Team and help young women in Rwanda achieve their dreams!
