The Knights of Columbus Council 4698 in Tinley Park, Illinois Intellectual Disability Drive is in Jeopardy!
It was started by our Council over 50 years ago as a "Candy Drive" with a handful of volunteers selling "Tootsie Rolls" to benefit persons with Intellectual Disabilities. Since then, our program spread nationally throughout the United States. Every year money was collected from motorists at stop lights by our members and friends as well as from volunteers at store fronts.
Our "Drive" generally occurs during the third weekend in September. All money collected is distributed locally to 12 organizations which benefit those with intellectual disabilities.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions passed on from State and local governments, we are unable to carry out our Intellectual Disabilities Drive in a physical manner.
Organizations which have received well needed assistance from our Council in the past, will not be able to this year. These organizations included local church Special Religious Education Programs, Orland Park Special Rec, Oak Forest and Homewood-Flossmoor High School Special Education programs, Tinley Park High School FFCLA, Tinley Park Special Olympics Torch Run, Region E Special Olympics, Community Services Foundation, and ACT. Over just the past 11 years, our Council alone has contributed over $375,000 to these incredible Organizations.
So, we're attempting to go "Digital". With your help we can continue to support these Organizations in need. If you can afford to make a donation, all funds collected (well 97% actually, the rest is used for processing fees) will be distributed to all local Organizations in need. We realize a minimum $10.00 donation may be considered high. This is the minimum amount accepted by GoFundMe. If that amount is too high, consider splitting the donation with a friend or two. (Also, the GoFundMe charity tip is strictly voluntary.) We won't be able to hand you back a tootsie Roll like before, but we hope you might assist us in our mission to help those in need.
If you are inclined to make a donation we thank you. If you are unable, that's OK, but at least pass this on to your social network. If you know somone who is not on social media, they can go to our web site at www.knights4698.org and click the "Donate" button at the bottom of the page.
"If everyone does a little, no one has to do it all".
Thank you for your time and God Bless.
