Thank you for your participation in Giving Tuesday Now!
One refrain we've heard countless times in our discussions with educators, local organizations and parents since the lockdown began is that many children in our community don't have the resources they need to make art. Items like pencils and crayons are not readily available in every home. Even when a child does have a pencil, without a pencil sharpener it can quickly become unusable. Other more specialized materials for art projects and activities may be completely inaccessible.
At KMAC, our mission is to connect people with art and creative practice. If children don't have the resources they need to create and connect with art in their homes, then that's a problem we want to solve. So we've created art bags for children that contain a variety of art activities for children and (most importantly) the supplies they need to make those activities come to life.
Each KMAC Art Bag costs about $1.60 and contains:
A packet of coloring sheets and art activities
1 pencil sharpener
1 glue stick
Extra materials to help complete the activities: a length of string, a sheet of tissue paper and a packet of modeling clay.
The packets will be distributed through JCPS feeding sites and to other organizations around the community working with children and families. Please help us make art the big idea for Louisville children!
