Kitten Supply Fund
It is that time of year again when cats that have not been spayed become mama cats. Un-spayed female cats can have 3-4 litters of kittens per season. You can see how quickly the number of stray kittens increases. Pregnant cats, cats with nursing kittens, and orphaned kittens are arriving to the shelter in overwhelming numbers.
This is the most challenging time of year for Burlington Humane as we navigate the demands that kitten season brings. The constant influx that seems to have no end in sight is a lot to keep up with, both physically and financially. The amount of food required to feed moms and babies in such high numbers is staggering.
Un-weaned orphaned kittens require kitten formula which is expensive. When they reach the age that they begin eating solid food…they eat a lot! Pregnant and nursing mothers also eat a lot, far more than the average cat would consume in a day.
On average we have 100 moms and kittens in foster this time of year, plus the ones in the shelter we are caring for. Add on vet visits, litter and miscellaneous supplies such as nursing bottles, scales and heat pads etc, and it becomes very costly.
If you are able to donate to our kitten fund we would be most appreciative. Tax receipts can be issued upon request for amounts of $20 or more. To request a receipt, please send an email with your name and address to: firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your support!
