During my second tour of duty in Afghanistan as a Marine, my helicopter fell from the sky and crashed to the ground.
Though I survived the brutal crash, the course of my life was forever changed. What followed were over 40 surgeries to repair massive brain and jaw damage, broken bones and burns. Ultimately, I would need to have a an above-the-knee amputation.
Climbing started out as a tool to push me through recovery, and now I have been using it as a tool to pay it forward. I am excited to announce that my Mt. Elbrus climb September 3rd - 13th, the highest peak in Europe and one of my seven summits, will be in support of raising donations for the non-profit GLAM4GOOD.
When I was initially hurt I struggled with my self-esteem and really suffered with body image and GLAM4GOOD was their to help.
GLAM4GOOD works with women and their families going through life's toughest challenges by providing new wardrobes, personal care essentials, and self-esteem building services to empower dignity, health, hope and happiness. You can find the GLAM4GOOD team working in natural disaster zones, homeless shelters, domestic violence safe houses, on military bases, in hospitals and schools.
GLAM4GOOD is an incredible organization that has supported me and I now sit on the Advisory Board of the foundation and am honored to be able to support this non-profit that does so much for women and girls.
Thank you for supporting this climb, the fourth of my seven summits, by making a donation to GLAM4GOOD to help us make a difference in the lives of women and their families!
