Kim's "In It For Life" NY Marathon
I am running the New York City Marathon in support of the Jordan Porco Foundation to raise awareness for suicide prevention. When I applied earlier this year for entry in the 2018 New York City Marathon, I never thought I would get in. The odds of getting a spot in the Marathon via the lottery are not very good, yet for some reason I was accepted. When I read the email from the New York Road Runners congratulating me on my acceptance, I initially was excited. That excitement pretty quickly turned to fear. I wondered how I was ever going to run 26.2 miles. I was determined to try, so I signed up for a training program . As the weather turned warmer, I started my training journey. Marathon training provides you with lots of alone time outside to think. When my training picked up and I was doing 2 and 3 hour runs, I started to think about how lucky I am to have a body that can move and endure all that I have asked of it during these long months of training. I realize not everyone is as lucky. I will be thinking of this as I struggle to finish those last few difficult Marathon miles on November 4. I think this is why I was lucky enough to gain entry into this year’s Marathon: to raise awareness of how lucky we are to be here and to raise money to help others realize this too. Thank you for your support. XO Kim
