In response to the escalating impact of COVID-19, KidSpirit is joining forces with people and organizations in nearly every country on #GivingTuesdayNow — a global day of giving and unity on May 5, 2020, to help communities connect and heal. In light of the economic challenges now facing the nonprofit sector, KidSpirit is launching a two-week campaign to support its online workshops and ensure that it can continue to meet the needs of this moment.
KidSpirit is a nonprofit online magazine and community by and for 11-to-17-year-olds to engage each other about life’s big questions in an open and inclusive spirit. During this time of social distancing, KidSpirit’s unique model of engaging kids directly presents a powerful opportunity for youth around the world to come together while they are physically apart. Anyone with an internet connection can get involved free of charge.
Today, one KidSpirit project is especially vital — the virtual workshop program. These workshops enable teens everywhere to build common ground through two different experiences: KidSpirit Connect brings youth together to engage deeply about questions that go to the heart of life, including the current pandemic; and Editing Workshops invite teens to collaboratively discuss and prepare articles submitted to the magazine for publication. Right now, this work is crucial to bringing a sense of normalcy and community to kids who are otherwise isolated.
In a world where feelings of anxiety and isolation are all too familiar, the advent of COVID-19 has made KidSpirit’s mission to amplify youth voices through creative self-expression all the more urgent. This open platform empowers teens to engage in substantive conversation through original writing, poetry, and art while engendering a sense of purpose and connection. Contributors are sharing their experiences, fears, and hopes about this crisis through their creativity, and are even starting new Editorial Boards in their local communities.
Join us and millions around the world in giving back, spreading kindness, and showing that together we can be a force for good.
Please consider making a donation today — or pledging a monthly recurring donation — to help youth meaningfully connect during this challenging time.
Thank you from the KidSpirit community!
