The Crossing For A Cure is a long-distance endurance paddle challenge and international championship that takes paddlers 80 miles across the Gulf Stream from Bimini in the Bahamas back to the Florida mainland in Lake Worth. Travis Suit's daughter Piper was diagnosed with CF when she was four years old.
Paddleboards with Purpose-Fighting Cystic Fibrosis and Cancer is the facebook page dedicated to promoting our team from St. Mark's Episcopal Church and the sponsors for this event and events like it.
Why "Kick CF and Cancer's Botto" When my cousin Thomas was a very young boy, he called his posterior a botto which was a quoation from a book. It's remained polite parlance in our family since. Now that Thomas' dad is battling cancer, the word has taken on new meaning.
A word about Kick CF and Cancer's Botto Fundraising: Their trip is self and special sponsor funded (including fundraising fees and any logistics) so 100% of your donation goes to Piper's Angels CF because they are sponsoring the Crossing Event BUT THEN..
A member of the Crossing for a Cure leadership named Tom reached out to Fr. Alan+ and Harrison early this year because he saw that they raised almost $10,000 for the CF Foundation in honor of a young woman in their parish who has CF by paddling from Key Largo to Key West in 2017.
Tom stayed with them, encouraging them and answering questions. And when they discovered that they could fight CF AND Cancer at the same time, that made it the perfect opportunity.
From Charlotte with CF to Barbara, Willetta, Bill, and Noble battling Cancer, they don't just want to win, they want to Kick CF and Cancer's Botto.
