We are building a volunteer-operated low power FM radio station to serve the Iowa City, Iowa area. In response to decreasing sources of local media, our mission is to help fill the need hole for accessible local non-commercial media that will provide information about the area's civic and cultural affairs; offer intelligent and entertaining programming from local, regional, national and international sources; xand provide public information, weather alerts, and emergency safety information.
Good quality content will include both syndicated and local public interest and entertainment programming. Entertainment programs and music will include locally produced and live music.
This project will help build community and civic engagement, providing a focus on local information. Once established, we hope to offer more volunteer, educational and training opportunities for students and other members of the community. In keeping with the mission of our sponsor organization, Extend the Dream, Inc., we will offer programming and volunteer opportunities inclusive of folks of all abilities.
Funds raised will be applied to ongoing operational costs, but our main goal is to purchase the final pieces of equipment needed to get on the air by early June. We are close to reaching that goal, and encourage all who are interested in local radio to contribute - even if you don't live in the Iowa City area, you'll be able to tune in online for some programming you won't hear anywhere else!
