Friends and Family,
Thank you so much for considering a donation to the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and Seacoast Cancer Center located in my current home of Dover, New Hampshire!
Since my soccer career ended I have been enjoying running as a hobby. I'm always looking for fun 5k's or other runs to do. When I realized the hosptial was doing one I just had to make sure I partipcated and fundraised. Not just because the hosptial does great work, but because they have done great work to help my health!
Back in November I visted a Digestive Specialist for issues I had been having for a few years. I had some blood work done to look for things like gluten intolerance that could be affecting my stomach. The blood work showed all good things except for very low platelets on my CBC. This led to once-a-week blood draws and hematology appointments for two months mixed in with steroids to see if we could fix the issue. Unfortuanltey that did not happen and I was diagnosed with chronic Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura - an autoimmune disorder in which my immune system attacks platelets leading to easy bruising and bleeding.
My hematologist at Wentworth-Douglass Hosptial's Seacoast Cancer Center was amazing at helping me through the frustrating trials of learning about this disorder. I am so thankful that they guided me through everything and made me understand that though this isn't the best situation, I can live no differently than I was before.
Because I spent many days in the waiting room of the Cancer Center I also got to see incredibly strong patients in much worse health conditions than my own, heard chemo patients ring the bell on their last treatment day and saw the hope and fight in so many wonderful people. I wanted to do something to give back to the place that I have witnessed both first and second hand make a difference in people's lives.
Proceeds from the race will support "the Survivorship, Health and Wellness Program at Wentworth-Dougless Hospital, which extends the clinical expertise needed to develop and monitor care plans for the growing number of survivors". Any donation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your help!
