Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a rare and genetic disease. One nickname the disease holds is the the worst disease you've never heard of. Another nickname is butterfly disease because patients with the disease have skin as fragile as a butterfly. The disease occurs due to a mutation in a gene that codes for a protein that essentially hold your skin to your body. EB patients have a defect in this gene, and their skin can come off very easily. This leads to lots of inflammation, fibrosis, and open wounds. EB pateints are, therefore, more suceptible to infection and other fatal diseases like skin cancer.
