Empowering Youth Global Connection(EYGC) is working with The Children of Africa Hope Mission School(COAHM) in Nairobi Kenya to move the school out of the slums. The Children of Africa Hope Mission School is currently located in the Slums of the Ng'ando/Riruta neighborhood of Nairobi Kenya. The Children of Africa Hope Mission School educates 188 students from playgroup to grade 8. The school provides two warm meals a day to all of its students, staff and some parents in need. Along with meals the school also provides all the uniforms and school supplies for its pupils. The community of the school and its surroundings is a slum and very poor. Most of the population is either infected or affected by HIV/Aids. If this school were to close down, then, at a minimum the 188 students would have nowhere to attend school. The reality being that these students will not be allowed to attend other schools due to lack of funds for school fees, health concerns and the discrimination that follows in Kenya, and or lack of space at other schools. Why does the school need to move? A different school that was located near the Children of Africa Hope Mission School recently collapsed. In the collapse, eight students perished and over sixty were injured. Both that school and the COAHM School were built with timber and iron sheets. Due to the collapse, the local government has decided that ALL local story schools that are built with timber and iron will be shut down on January 1st, 2020. The current location of the school is on rented property. They rent 1/8th of an acre and have two stories to accommodate the students. The owner of the property refuses to allow the COAHM School to build brick buildings, even if the property was big enough (not that it is). This particular property also has major issues with sewage leaking. Some days it leaks from the main pipe (for the entire slums area) right under the student's play area and school is shut down due to the stench as well as health concerns!!! Property rates in this area run for $300,000 USD for half an acre!! Solution: EYGC and COAHM School, are partnering up to help fundraise for at least one acre of property further outside of the slums. Since the property is further from the city, they will not have to deal with raw sewage leaking from sewage pipes. They can build brick buildings that are safe. They can have a few chickens and a vegetable garden to help feed the students, and most importantly these students will have an opportunity to learn and grow and empower themselves that they could not do without this school!!! Please help us raise the $30,000 by January 1st, 2020, that is needed to purchase the property so that the Children of Africa Hope Mission School can continue to provide, food, love and education to these 188 students and many more to come!!! THANK YOU!!
