Pull for Pride combines two things I really care about: lifting heavy things and uplifting marginalized young people. The Williams Institute estimates that 40% of the US's 1.6 million homeless youth are queer, and 43% of them were forced out of their homes by their parents. Our country's educational and social support services often fail these young people. Project Fierce is a nonprofit organization that attempts to fill in the gaps that our institutions leave. This radical collection of advocacy workers seeks to create affirming transitional housing for queer young people. I am thrilled to be lifting in support of all of their amazing work.
Last year, I managed to raise $753 for queer homeless youth and deadlift a top pull of 115kg/253.5lbs. This year, I'm taking it to home sweet home Chicago to try for even more. My fundraising goal is $1000. My lifting goal? I have no idea, but my all-time gym PR is now 275lbs/124.7kg, so surely I can do more than that with some dedicated training time.
Please join me in supporting such an important cause.
