Welcome to Kelly’s fundraising page in support of She Can Tri!
In case you have not heard Kelly is competing in her first Half Ironman in September at the Ironman 70.3 Superfrog in Coronado, California - this officially makes her a badass.
But why? We asked Kelly.
I have served in the United States Navy for the eight years now. My love of country and desire to see the world put me on this journey as a Naval Flight Officer in the P-8 Poseidon.
But I know I would not be able to pursue this amazing path if it had not been for the women who blazed the trail for women's service in the aviation community. I only hope to continue the tradition through my own service.
Serving in the Navy is incredibly empowering as the responsibilities are significant and the work challenging, exciting and rewarding.
Gender stereotypes are overridden in the Navy by determination, proven capabilities, and a shared appreciation for adventure, adrenaline and hard work.
I love mentoring my sailors and empowering them to have successful careers and lives.
The most important thing to me is not the specific path that a person chooses, but that they are informed about all of their available options and make the choice that is right for them.
As for triathlon - I got interested in 2016 when I moved to San Diego to teach ROTC at the University of San Diego, and after my first sprint I was hooked.
Through my military and triathlon journey, I have discovered that the only impossible in life is what you don't try.
I hope to inspire others to push their limits and do whatever they want to do in the world.
She Can Tri
She Can Tri is dedicated to making sure young girls and women know their options.
Through education and mentorship we are changing perceptions, raising expectations, and leveling the playing field in male-dominated industries.
After all careers don't have a gender. Society does not define the rules, you do.
We want the current and next generation to push boundaries from the front lines to the C-suite.
All funds raised will help She Can Tri continue its mission.
She Can Tri operates in partnership with the Service Women's Action Network (SWAN), a 501(c)(3). SWAN supports, connects and advocates for military women.
Another way to help is to spread the word of She Can Tri.
