My name is Kelly.
I'm 30 years old, I love Dungeons & Dragons, the color teal, makeup, and I HATE cancer.
I very specifically hate pancreatic cancer.
Pancreatic cancer has many (terrible) complications and a low survival rate.
My uncle was diagnosed in August of 2018 and passed away January 6, 2019.
He was a father, a grandfather, a veteran, an outdoorsman, a fisherman, a hunter, a VERY handy man, a wonderful uncle, and one of the only people with whom I could speak candidly about sobriety (both his and mine).
When I joined the Potterhead Running Club January of this year,
they announced their first race would be paired with the Project Purple.
Funds from the registration for the race would go to the charity.
It was only a week or 2 after my uncle's passing and I signed up IMMEDIATELY.
While I did so, I researched the charity (just to make sure they weren't doing something dumb with the money--you can never be too careful these days).
The more I read, the more I felt like this was a sign.
Not only do they use funds to research treatments and cures, but they also help aid patients who need it financially.
Without getting into it too much, I saw how important the financial aid was/could have been in someone's time of need.
I told EVERYONE about the race.
I posted about it on Facebook and in FB groups, I texted friends, I e-mailed family.
I made my mom, my sister, my cousins, and my best friend all sign up.
But it didn't feel like enough.
I contacted Project Purple directly and to my delight they explained their Pioneer Program!
Esentially, the Pioneer Program means that I can use my voice and platform as an individual to fundraise for them myself!
So now you're all caught up--and here we both are.
The funding of research for a cure is so incredibly important.
Cancer needs to be eradicated.
But in the meantime, we need to take care of patients who need it now.
Project Purple can do that.
Please help me in making sure they can continue to do that.
My minimum goal is $500, but I would LOVE to raise more.
I’d love it even more if you could help me get there.
Any and every bit helps.
And even if you can’t contribute financially, it would help so much if you could share this page.
My race will be on April 20th and my team is going to be D&D themed.
If you know me personally and would like to join, I'd be thrilled to give you that information if you message/text/email me.
