Many of you know I'm involved in a WONDERFUL piece of conservation property that was recently acquired by Avalonia Nature Conservancy. The stewards and myself have worked really hard over the past year to plan, lay down and maintain a series of trails that both reveal and protect the beauty of this landscape.
Since the opening of the property to hikers, several conservation professionals have gratiously provided their expertise to size up the value of this land both to the local ecology and to the people of New London County for recreation and archeological studies. They have discovered rare species of birds, orchids, lichen, stonework and other species that speak to the value of this gem to nature, history, and the future of our culture. A trailcam survey of the trails reviels a wide variety of use, but most often by trail runners, group hikers and nature clubs. The property has been ranked Avalonia's #1 best trails and is a favorite of many visitors, bird enthusiasts and extreme endurance athletes.
Over the past several years, a number of stewards and myself (namely Carl Tjerandsen and Sue Sutherland) have collected photos that capture the diversity of wildlife and flora on the preserve through the seasons. This is the link to that photo gallery for you to experience:
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Today, Avalonia still carries $100,000 in bridge loans that will expire in 1 year and cause the property to be forfeit if unpaid in full. So, in an effort to give back to this property a small part of what it has given me and my friends, I am starting this fundrasier to raise money for the full payment of these bridge loans. But more than that, ongoing stewardship projects like bridges, diseased tree removal and trail manentance cost money. Your donations to this page go straight to the TriTwon Ridgeline Forest Fund for these purposes.
How this will work:
Since I am a long distance runner and am regularly training for difficult events. During my training and for special events I will hold fundraisers to benefit Avalonia Land Conservancy. I have arranged so that all donations that are made through my page will only go towards the Tri-Town Ridgeline Forest property and it's management costs. I will post, unless you would prefer to be anonymous, my sponsorships and competition winners on the Facebook page while keeping the individual donation amounts made visible strictly by you when you donate here at Crowdrise to Avalonia Land Conservancy.
Donation suggestions change for each event I do and usually correlate to the difficult of the event. However, you are always welcome to donate according to your circumstances and desires. All gifts, large and small matter!
