Fund the Movie to Keep Squaw True
Tahoe is awesome. And Squaw Valley is an important part of what makes Tahoe so awesome.
Right now, it’s where an incredible story is unfolding as we stand together to defend our mountains. It’s the story of thousands of Davids working together to face down a Goliath of a private developer. It's a love story about our connection to one of the most special places in the Sierra Nevada.
To protect the place we love and to Keep Squaw True, this is a story we need to tell the whole world, and you can make it happen.
We are Sierra Watch, a nonprofit dedicated to securing lasting conservation for our favorite mountain places, and we are excited to be collaborating with the acclaimed Gaffney Brothers, Robb and Scott, to produce The Movie to Keep Squaw True. Watch the video to see what we're about.
And there's plenty more about the Campaign and Sierra Watch on our website too.
In February we launched our crowdfunding campaign to raise the $80,000 we need to make this movie real and help Keep Squaw True.
Saving Squaw Valley and making this movie are worthy endeavors by themselves, but we're throwing in some special perks for our donors--like Keep Squaw True apparel and even a set of Slant Skis or a Snowboard made by Tahoe Snow Labs with custom Keep Squaw True topsheets for our top 10 fundraisers. What's at Stake
We're making this movie because real estate speculators want to transform Squaw Valley with development unlike anything North Lake Tahoe has ever seen.
KSL Capital Partners, a Coloardo Private Equity Fund wants to build acres of new highrise condos and hotels at the base of Squaw Valley, timeshare mansions in pristine Shirley Canyon, and a 90,000 squaw foot indoor water park that would be as big as a Walmart and twice as tall.
Their plan would make existing traffic and parking problems worse, including putting more people in harms way in the event of a wildfire, threaten local water supplies, and create pollution that ends up in Lake Tahoe, threatening it's famed clarity.
Sierra Watch, and our movement to Keep Squaw True, is the only thing standing between Squaw Valley and the harm this development would cause to the entire region. Join us as we stand up for a future that respects the special environment of the Tahoe Sierra, our limited mountain infrastructure, and the community that lives and plays here.
