During these extraordinary times we all find ourselves facing new challenges in our personal and professional lives. From the onset of this global pandemic, the Italian American Heritage Foundation (IAHF) has been committed to sharing and supporting the spirit of Italian culture, not only to our members, but to everyone in the Santa Clara Valley community.
Our primary goal is to keep our doors open during this crisis, and, more importantly, be viable when we all get to the other side. We are determined to continue to offer our community the Italian cultural programs, classes, and events we have proudly hosted for over 40 years.
Who we are
The IAHF was founded in1976 and has remained one of the largest and longstanding Italian Cultural Centers on the West Coast. Our organization helps maintain the liveliness of Italian culture as we hold many immersive opportunities that allow people to come together to learn about and share traditional and contemporary Italian heritage. We proudly host cultural programs, as we honor Italian-Americans through:
- Storyboards, photo archives and our bilingual library
- Celebrations of Italy’s holidays and traditions from unique geographic regions
- Language and cooking classes
- Genealogy, Italian dual citizenship, and meet the author workshops
- Events including movie night, regional lunches, galas, opera, and other musical programs
- Annual Italian Family Festa – two days of everything Italian
- Extensive outreach programs that bring awareness to our community
Our monthly newsletter shares information about our programs and events, as well as historical information on Italian Americans in Santa Clara County, as well as many other Italian related articles. And we have been honored, for many decades, to award scholarships to deserving high school and community college graduates.
We are a local organization built on a solid foundation. Our organization is operated by our generous family of volunteers who donate their time to help produce events, manage programs, work in our library, in addition to anything that is needed to keep our foundation going. Our volunteers do this because they have a passion for Italian culture and love shining a light on the incredible things that our organization has accomplished.
Why we need your help
The IAHF has three major sources of income: membership dues, events, and cultural center rentals. With 100% of our events and rentals having been cancelled due to the shelter-in-place orders we are reaching out to you. We have been, and continue to, actively apply for grants and government loans, but to date, nothing significant has come through. Our monthly operating expenses continue, and although we have a small reserve it is simply not sufficient. We need your help to continue to bring engaging, fun, and unique community-building programs that will keep Italian culture alive. With your support, we will have the opportunity to represent our Italian-American communities and to reinvent our organization.
Once things get back to “normal” we look forward to opening up our events, programs, and library, displaying our photo archives, presenting college scholarships and once again be able to come together to say “ciao”.
How We Will Thank You
You’ll become one of our treasured family of donors and we’ll recognize you by giving you a shout out on our IAHF site www.iahfsj.org and our monthly newsletter distributed to our 600 plus members.
How can YOU get involved? We understand that these are difficult times, any donation big, or small, is welcomed and greatly appreciated. You can support us by telling your friends and family about the IAHF. Once we are back open, we will welcome you to come and enjoy one of our many events. All contributions will go to paying our basic monthly expenses, and rehire our one employee, the person who makes sure that things run smoothly throughout the organization.
