"It was pretty hard...
You can’t go to the doctor. I couldn’t cash any checks. I couldn’t apply for food stamps,” shared a man who became homeless after his landlord evicted him and discarded his ID.
Loss of identification documents is a huge issue among those experiencing homelessness, as basic forms of ID such as Social Security cards are often required in order to apply for aid services. According to the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty in 2018, 51% of homeless adults without identification were denied Supplemental Security Income, 53% denied food stamps, and 45% denied medical care. Lack of identification forces individuals to find alternative, informal assistance that is neither adequate nor consistent.
Team Keep is launching Keep.id for public beta-testing after a year of research and development into cloud software and the nonprofit sector, specifically homelessness services.
Our goal is to increase end-user access to important documents while streamlining cumbersome paperwork for local nonprofits who manage people's cases. Keep.id combines PDF form filling technology, secure cloud storage, and aid resources into one simple platform designed for low-tech-IQ users.
Your gift will help cover peoples' fees for ID applications with our initial beta testing partners. This will encourage them to submit the application together.
Will you help us help others—out of empathy, with innovation, and in collaboration?
