Keep Girls in School - Empowering women and girls so they can, so THEY WILL!
Dear Imagine Software Team-
Thank you so much for choosing Warm Hearts for your 3rd quarter project. As a fully volunteer organization of passionate and caring people, I can personally guarantee that your hard earned donations will make a positive impact on the lives of the young women in the Mangochi District of Malawi and in the Kibera Slums in Nairobi where we do our work. Having been there on multiple expeditions, I know that not only will the money go to help these girls, but that the girls are bright, deserving and ready to take advantage of the opportunities they are empowered with. I'm honored that you chose us, and we won't let you down. Your donations will make a difference.
A girl at the well in Chaona Village, Malawi, named Christine, told a WHF volunteer that she was leaving school when she finished the 5th grade later that year. In the conversation it became clear that she was unaware that girls could go on to school after that year. What would life be like if you left after 5th grade? In Malawi and Kenya hundreds of thousands of girls do just that and are simply left behind, consigned to a life of poverty, poor health, violence, early pregnancy and child marriage. And the nations are deprived of millions of potential teachers, doctors, political leaders, and engineers whose contributions Malawi and Kenya desperately need.
We know when young women aren't in school, their likelihood of teen pregnancy and marriage is higher, decreasing their chances of lifting themselves and their families out of poverty, and unfortunately, it's only getting worse with schools being closed due to the pandemic. Here's an article on the recent rise in sexual abuse/violence and teen pregnancies since CoVid-19 caused the lockdown, and exactly what we're trying to reduce in the communities where we're working. https://msmagazine.com/2020/04/20/covid-19-and-young-girls-expect-increases-in-child-marriage-and-teen-pregnancy/
Warm Hearts is committed to the principle that even the most disadvantaged and vulnerable girls, in rural villages and urban slums, deserve the opportunity to a quality education from a school at an accessible distance, that is safe and clean, with a teacher who believes in gender equality.
ImagineSoftware has generously decided to make the Keep Girls in School initiative for their 3rd quarter project. Warm Hearts is grateful that we can partner together to make those dreams a reality, and hopefully we can keep more girls in school and achieve their educational aspirations.
