Nana & Papa’s Nest, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit Southeastern Virginia Parrot Rescue, Sanctuary, and Rehabilitation Center. We believe every parrot deserves a loving, warm place that they can feel safe and have fun just being birds. The parrot facility houses 40 parrots reaching capacity until this past summer.
This past summer, the newest aviary was completed and resided 14 total birds consisting of Macaws, Amazons, and Cockatoos.
The temporary heating units are costly. Frequent gas tank refills costing an average of $150 a week and unreliable in maintaining constant heat temperatures in the aviary. We desperately need to upgrade the furnace system that will provide a reliably energy-efficient heating system.
ABOUT OUR PROJECT:
· Installation of a new Rheem R92TA08592 gas furnace for the new parrot aviary
· The installation consists of a return duct, fresh air intake, and supply duct
· Installation of LP gas lines, running flue pipe for the furnace, and drain lines
· Installation of a new thermostat, with an emergency, shut off switch.
· Cost $3,500
As the Founder and Executive Director of Nana & Papa’s Nest, Inc., this cause means so much to me. When Papa and I founded this Parrot Rescue, Rehabilitation Sanctuary, it was for the love we have for these beautiful creatures. We recognized long before becoming a non-profit that many parrots outlive their owners and go from home to home more often than anyone can even imagine. Yes, a few parrots came from loving owners who can no longer care for their beloved bird. However, this is often not the case. Many of the parrots we take into our care fall into that category of “falling into the wrong hands.” Imagine being rehomed four or more times within 20 years. Imagine not knowing the history of their life before coming to Nana & Papa’s Nest. Imagine not knowing the age of a bird. Imagine being a victim due to mistreatment, abused, and neglected. Imagine not trusting humans resulting in being scared, aggressive, screaming, and in some cases injured because that bird has “falling into the wrong hands.” Often, these behaviors are the result of the constant rehoming of the parrot.
Unfortunately, that is the consequence of a parrot’s life into “falling into the wrong hands.” We recognized the psychological impact of these beautiful creatures, sometimes "falling into the wrong hands." The majority of the parrots that reside here at Nana & Papa’s Nest, Inc. are geriatrics, have health issues, aggressive behavioral tendencies, neglect, abuse, or injury. Why! The bird had “falling into the wrong hands.” Often those birds are transferred from another facility to Nana & Papa’s Nest. Therefore, keeping them warm is critical for their well-being and comfort. Imagine how their life has transformed living in a safe, happy, well care environment by our dedicated volunteers.
Nana & Papa are genuinely grateful for your continued support.
