Over 61% of young women in Nandi County, Kenya get married between the ages 15-19 years. School dropout among young girls in this county continues to skyrocket every day and major issues such as teenage pregnancy and early marriages have become an everyday norm. On average 2 out of 5 girls who come from different communities in county get married at the age of fifteen and am afraid that if we do not intervene more and more girls will continue to be affected.
Having been born and bred in this community, I have personally witnessed my friends drop out of school and get married because their parents could not afford their education and even with the little money they had, most parents preferred educating the boys to educating a girl. Life Lifters Foundation, the first girl’s initiative in this community, hopes to mitigate this sitution by mentoring , training and exposing these young women to academic and leadership opportunities that they would not have in a normal circumstance. So far the foundation has successfully reached out to more than two hundred girls through mentorship but we need your help to reach out to more girls.
For the 2018 cohort, the foundation has recruited twenty very smart and underprivileged girls who need help with their school fees and basic needs such as sanitary towels in order to stay in school. Please help us keep these girls in school through your donation. It costs approximately $300 to take one girl through high school in Nandi county.
