Our handbells are a loved and vital part of our music program and our appeal as a church. However, they are badly in need of repair. Unlike our pianos and organ, their maintenance isn’t budgeted because year to year they require very little, and we can do simple adjustments on them with a few tools and parts. In order to keep them in good repair and make them last, every 5-8 years they need major maintenance. It has come time. In my research, I cannot find that these bells have been serviced since we bought them in 2006. So you can imagine how we have stretched that time period. We cannot let it go another year, and I am planning on having them serviced this summer. However, we need your help to make it happen.
Barring any unforeseen needs on specific bells, this maintenance cost will be $3780 for our full set of 5 octaves to be fully serviced. This includes replacing parts that are worn out, retuning of bells if need be, calibrating proper striking points for the clappers, and cleaning and polishing the mechanisms and castings. It is technical work and needs the attention of the factory where they were made.
In support of this initiative, Major Gifts has agreed to match every dollar we raise. I have divided the money into 61 segments of $31 each…one for each bell that needs servicing. We only need 61 pledges of just $31, combined with matching funds from major gifts, to meet our goal! Can you sponsor a bell or two to get back to prime condition and ensure our bells are able to produce high-quality music for years to come?
Thank you for your support of Central’s music program!
