Austin Pets Alive!'s mission is to promote and provide the resources, education and programs needed to eliminate the killing of companion animals. Some of our dogs who are most in need of those resources are our long stay, large sized dogs.
Our community has stepped up since Hurricane Harvey to help us place the majority of these dogs into foster homes (counting dogs that have been in our system for 200+ net days). They've blessed these pups with love and patience, and have given us the gift of information. This allows us to know exactly which resources we can offer to make these dogs more adoptable to their potential Pup Parents!
Specifically we have some pups who do not benefit from other dog siblings, and they really miss their people when their Moms and Dads leave the house. It would be a dream for these pups to a have a really sturdy crate that could be offered to their parents for FREE! This could ensure the pup is safe when left alone, ease adopter's minds about the term "separation anxiety", and ease the pup's anxiety as they are allowed to settle into their new home.
Our most recent success story was Tank Girl! An indestructible crate was fundraised for her specifically and allowed her foster to feel comfortable about taking her home, knowing she could leave Tank Girl alone safely when she had to go to work, and was one of the factors that helped her make her decision to ADOPT Tank Girl!
The Behavior Team would love to have 10 Large Indestructible Crates, and 5 Medium sized to send with pups that they think need a little help in order to succeed.
Let's get these pups home! And KEEP them home! Donate, Spread the Word. Some of our favorite pups like Zydeco, Farrah, and Hagrid will thank you!
