Help ATX Kids Club continue educational and fun adventures for Central Texas youth
Who is ATX Kids Club?
ATX Kids Club is a non-profit organization with a mission to inspire youth to fearlessly explore and become independent, self-confident individuals through year-round educational and health-minded field trip adventures. Through their school holiday, summer camp, and Saturday programs, ATX Kids Club provides youth with the knowledge of how to explore their city using Capital Metro, Austin’s public transportation system. Campers are encouraged to interact with their environment through hands-on experiences while visiting local government buildings, museums, botanical gardens, and cultural centers.
Why is ATX Kids Club hosting a Go Fund Me?
Due to Covid-19, ATX Kids Club has had to make many changes to their programming. ATX Kids Club is committed to keeping their staff, volunteers, and campers safe and healthy this summer. Following their regular schedule of having campers travel around Austin and utilize CapMetro was not going to be conducive to minimizing the exposure of staff, volunteers, and campers to Covid-19. This led to the decision to transport campers from Travis County to Bastrop County, an area less populated and with lower Covid-19 case numbers. Visiting local and state parks, and a privately-owned property has provided opportunities for education, fun, and adventures. By limiting the number of campers to only 30% of normal registrations, there has been a limited amount of exposure to others. In order to create this new version of programming, ATX Kids Club has had to incur a number of unforeseen expenses, to include Van Rental, Gas, Camp Canopies, Camp Chairs, Extra First Aid Supplies, PPE supplies, Hand Sanitizer, Soap, Educational Materials, and more. In addition to these expenses, over $75k was refunded for camp cancellations, and over $30k was provided to families as a credit for 2021 adventures. Through all of the hardships, ATX Kids Club has continued to offer Financial Aid to families in need. Their goal is to never turn away a child or family, and they continue to provide adventure-based learning experiences for all, no matter what. All that being said, ATX Kids Club needs your help!
How will ATX Kids Club use the money raised by this campaign?
ATX Kids Club will use the money raised by this campaign to help cover the costs of running this new version of camp for the remainder of the summer. The money will go to:
- Continued costs of using ATX Kids Club vans rather than public transit: gas, insurance, etc.
- Electricity and water utilities on the privately-owned property, which has never been a cost ATX Kids Club has had to cover for camp
- Camp supplies: educational materials (paper, pencils, paint, glue, etc.), bug spray, sanitizer, soap, first aid supplies, etc.
- Camp infrastructure: camp chairs, multiple tables, five 10’x10’ pop-up tents, etc.
While they are unable to visit museums, businesses, government buildings, etc., ATX Kids Club is still focused on providing educational experiences for their campers. Help ATX Kids Club continue to build a safe environment for their staff, volunteers, and campers so that they can continue to have educational and adventurous out-of-school learning experiences!
