I have always been passionate about young children from my earliest experiences growing up as the oldest of four kids, and now as a mother of two elementary school-aged children. I find so much joy in watching and guiding little ones as they explore the world around them.
I've recently begun pursuing a career in early childhood education, so the issue of ensuring that each and every child has access to early education and a safe play environment is a critically important issue, and a deeply personal one for me.
Horizons for Homeless Children improves the lives of young children and families in Massachusetts who are experiencing homelessness by providing high-quality early education, opportunities for play, and comprehensive family support services.
Many of Horizons' usual fundraising channels have been disrupted over these past few months as a result of COVID-19. When I heard about their virtual 'Route for Kids' 5k Fundraiser, I realized that it was a perfect opportunity to not just push myself to achieve some fitness goals, but also help to raise awareness and support for this amazing organization. The funds raised for Horizons for Homeless Children will allow them to continue providing essential education opportunities, nutritious meals, mental health services and a safe and healthy environment for the children and families they serve.
Please consider supporting me as I run a 5k route around my town (Lexington, MA). My goal is to simply run it without stopping and maybe average a 10-minute mile if I'm lucky? (And if you're all lucky, I'll post a sweaty selfie afterwards as proof of my accomplishment!) Thank you for your support.
