I've suffered from migraines for over 30 years, and they have been chronic for over 20 years. In 2014 I began fundraising and advocacy work with migraine NPOs. This past year, I moved my advocacy for migraine research and education into the real world, going to Headache on the Hill in Washington D.C. to ask members of Congress for a definition of Migraine Disease in the Social Security Disability "blue book," since the condition was not included and migraineurs applying for SSDI were turned down upon first application at an astonishing rate as a result. ***And last month we learned that our trip made a difference! A definition of Migraine and Chronic will be added to the blue book!!!***
Later this month, I'll be traveling to Newark, where I'll receive training ffrom the U.S. Pain Foundation and the National Headache Foundation on facilitating chronic pain
and migraine support groups. NHF are sponsoring my training, so I thought I'd return the favor by having my birthday fundraiser go to them this year.
