Dear Family and Friends,
As some of you may already know, I am gearing up for my 2nd Chicago Marathon. This year, I am hoping to make my race even more meaningful by raising money for an organization that needs our support: Planned Parenthood. This organization provides healthcare, counseling and education to millions of women and men, many of whom have nowhere else to turn for medical care. In fact, 20% of all women have chosen Planned Parenthood for their medical care at some point in their lives. In addition to providing essential healthcare services, Planned Parenthood also advocates for policies that support women’s rights and improve access to reproductive health care worldwide. Above all, this organization fights for women’s rights to take control of their health and helps women make informed, thoughtful decisions about their bodies.
Coincidentally, the timing of the Marathon aligns with the end of my Pediatric rotation and the beginning of my OB/GYN rotation, the two specialties that I am most interested in pursuing. During these rotations, I have seen, first hand, how many people need the important services that Planned Parenthood provides. I have also witnessed how significant prenatal care is to newborn babies’ outcomes. Currently, funding for Planned Parenthood has been threatened, and I believe that it is important to take action. Planned Parenthood needs our help now more than ever. I stand with and will be running for Planned Parenthood on October 7th. I hope you will consider supporting this worthy and important organization so they can continue to provide the services that are so essential to women’s health.
Love,
Katie
