"With the onset of COVID, the last year and a half has not been short of challenges and obstacles in so many of our lives forcing us to reflect and, in many cases, reprioritize. For me, it has become clear that being outdoors and feeling connected to nature is what I'm passionate about, and it gives me the ability to disconnect from life's stresses while feeling more connected to the things that matter. This adventure fundraiser, like many plans this past year, has been re-planned a number of times and still has a level of uncertainty due to the increased traffic in National Parks across the country this summer. Our hope is to take on the north loop of Mt. Rainier National Park, and the Enchantments Trail in the Cascades will be our backup if we are unable to secure permits. Regardless of which trail we end up backpacking, this trip and the perseverance it has taken to plan it are dedicated to raising funds to get more young women and girls outdoors. My hope is that this momentum to get outside continues in the post-COVID world and girls are encouraged to feel at home in this space." - Katie Koumarianos
