Hi everyone! We are Kate Hohman and Carter Leahy from Bethesda, Maryland. We graduated from Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart together in 2018 and been friends since we were eight years old. Kate goes to Tulane University in New Orleans and Carter goes to Colgate University in Upstate New York. We have been thinking about a way to volunteer during the pandemic, but the stay at home order limits what we can do. We have decided to walk a marathon and in doing so, raise money to support a local non-profit organization, Bethesda Cares.
Bethesda Cares is a local community outreach program that aims to keep homeless people safe and aid people at risk of eviction or utility shut-off. This crisis has made each of us think more about those in our community who are in need, which pushed us to create a GoFundMe page to raise money for Bethesda Cares. This donation will help the center acquire supplies and items they need during this ever-changing pandemic situation. We choose this charity because Kate’s grandfather, Tom Hohman, volunteered at Bethesda Cares for the last ten years of his life and we want to support people within our own community.
Our goal is to complete the marathon in one day, in under ten hours, during the week of May 10. We will post an update prior to the walk if you would like to follow us on our journey. Additionally, we will post our finish time and our fundraising total. Our fundraising goal is $3,500. We appreciate all donations!
Thank you for your consideration! Kate & Carter
** If you would prefer to donate over Venmo, we will add your donation to the GoFundMe in your name. (@kate-hohman | @carterleahy)
